About

Master Gunstock Carver Joe CummingsI was born in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah in Heber City.  Most of my time throughout my life has been spent outdoors. I have also been an avid hunter and fisherman all my life.

I have spent many years working as a taxidermist. I feel that a taxidermy background has helped me greatly with my animal carvings. My taxidermy background has helped me understand the correct anatomy and physiology of birds and mammals.

In 2003,  I met Dr. Lew Jensen at a Home Show in Salt Lake City, Utah. He introduced me to the High Speed Engraving Equipment I use to do all my carvings and engravings. This includes Gunstocks, Pistol Grips, Cabinet Doors, Wood Briefcase, Custom Fireplace Mantels and many other Wood Carvings.

This High Speed Engraving Equipment has greatly changed the course of my life.

In 2004, I was awarded the BEST OF SHOW AWARD at the Utah State Fair in the Relief Carving Category. I won the award with one of my Gunstock Carvings. In December of 2004, Dr. Lew Jensen made me a member of an elite group of Artisans known as The Paragraphics Masters.

I now spend much of my time Carving and Engraving.

I also offer Gunstock Carving Classes. Classes are on-going and dates are very flexible. I can arrange to teach around your schedule. I have taught at my studio and also at Customer’s locations.

Please Contact Me if you are interested in taking a wood carving class or if I can answer any questions for you.
